My school presentations are suited to grades K-5.

I adapt the content, focus, and tone to each age group.

For younger children, I focus on the fun of reading. I get kids engaged with simple body movements (“Put your finger on your nose if you like funny books!”). We talk about how writers get ideas and how stories come from both “knowing things” and “feeling things”. Also we count snails and spiders in Oliver at the Window!

For older children, I might ask, “Who wants to be a writer? Who likes to read?” I walk the students through the process of conceiving, researching, composing, revising, and publishing a book, giving them an inside glimpse of a writer’s life. If requested by the school, my presentation can be adapted to emphasize family/feeling issues (using Oliver at the Window) or science and animals (using the Hector Fuller books).

I also offer writing workshops where I help students develop a writing sample or create something original in a variety of genres. The workshops are interactive, supportive...and fun!

Logistics

I provide posters, lesson plan, and a book order form for your school. The book order forms should be distributed to the kids several weeks before my visit.

Please let me know in advance if you would like to order from:

  • Your local bookstore (a great choice!)
  • My family’s toy store at 415-332-4151 or by emailing me or
  • Boyds Mills Press (Oliver at the Window) at 877-512-8366 or orders@boydsmillspress.com

For assemblies and larger groups, I need a screen, microphone, and a small table. Please let me know if you have a powerpoint projector and laptop available. For small groups, I can use boards. Presentations require about 30-45 minutes, depending on the age group. I will do three in one visit. I can visit more than one school in your area, and I will gladly sign books.

Honorarium: Please contact me to discuss.

No fee for school visits coordinated through local bookstores.

Book Fairs: Book Passage, an independent bookstore, offers high quality book fairs to schools in the San Francisco Bay Area. Please contact Sue Campbell at bookfairs@bookpassage.com or visit http://www.bookpassage.com/content.php?id=103

Bookstores and Libraries

I love bookstores! Librarians rule!

Library and bookstore visits work best if the event is coordinated with a local school or a regular children’s program. I am happy to speak to adults as well.

Please contact me at: mail@elizabethshreeve.com

“Your visit inspired the young readers and writers at Strawberry Point School. I especially appreciate how you adapted to our full ranges of age groups from kindergarten through fifth grade. It was very evident from their rapt attention that they were drawn into the story and could relate to Oliver’s experiences. And the Hector Fuller books are flying off of the library shelves!”

- Dee Kauer, School Librarian

Dear Ms. Shreeve,
Thank you for coming to my school. You are the best author I ever seen. Could you come over my house sometime?
I will ask my mom.

- Love, Hayley
